Psychotherapy for Adults

People often ask, “what kind of therapy do you practice?” or “what’s your theoretical background?” or “what’s your style?” I trained at the Veterans Administration which provided a deep dive into time limited psychodynamic psychotherapy. I’ve also spent time in post graduate training with cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and, my personal favorite, integrating mindfulness practices into therapy. I am trained in EMDR and find this modality very helpful for trauma work. What does all of that mean? I integrate a variety of theoretical perspectives depending on the presenting issues and needs of the folks I work with. I can say with certainty I am about helping you become the best version of yourself, getting unstuck, relieving problematic symptoms, thoughts, or behaviors, improving relationships, navigating life transitions, and learning to love yourself.

Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy. I offer Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP) and psychedelic integration services for adults. KAP requires a relationship with a prescriber, and I have several who I work with. Learn more about KAP here. I also offer harm reduction and integration services with natural medicines under the guidelines and limitations of Colorado Prop 122. Psychotherapy for Teens and Young Adults

I love working with adolescents. I am a mom to two former teenagers, now technically young adults. I’ll be the first to tell you, being a teenager these days is tough. As is being a parent of teenagers. There’s way more distractions and avenues for social comparison which I believe only contribute to the stress of navigating life in middle and high school. Comparison is the thief of joy, said Theodore Roosevelt, and it’s these avenues for social comparison bombarding teens today robbing us of our joy (adults, too!) If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, loneliness, shyness, or just feeling out of place, I can help you find your way back to your best self. It’s right there, and sometimes you need a little help you get there.

I have a passion for helping college age young adults navigate the many transitions that college brings. I plan to offer virtual groups for college students starting in the fall of 2024. These groups will incorporate both psychoeducation and support.

Helping Health Care Professionals with Burnout

Working with health care professionals around issues of burnout, work life integration, and compassion fatigue is one of my specialties. While at Colorado Permanente Medical Group, I served as the in-house behavioral health care provider for the physicians and administrative staff. I developed a wellness program aimed at addressing the widespread problem of physician burnout utilizing workshops, small group educational talks on various wellness topics, Balint groups, and individual counseling and coaching. I understand the pressures of working in health care, and I also know how hard it is for helping professionals to ask for help for themselves. The airlines got it right when they told us to “put your own oxygen mask on first,” but that’s not necessarily what we actually practice. Let me help you create balance in helping others and helping yourself. You really do have to take care of yourself in order to be of service to others, and that’s often easier said than done.

Assisting Athletes with the Psychological Side of Sport

I have extensive experience as a life long athlete from winning the Hershey Nationals track and field 400m relay at age 11 to running Division 1 track in college, and more recently with 20+ years as a competitive cyclist. I understand what it means to be committed to your sport and the challenges we face trying to balance the drive for competition with the demands of daily life. Whether you are a weekend warrior or an experienced or elite athlete, I can help you navigate the mental side of sport. We all have negative self talk that at times hijacks our best intentions and our best efforts, but there are ways to tame these demons. Learn to work through these challenges by building your mental toughness and managing your self talk, your own expectations, and the pressures you may feel from others.
